Applecross and the world famous Pass of the Cattle. Dad driving with Mum filming from the back seat and yours truly as the six year old co-driver. No power steering or ABS brakes in those days of course! And I have no doubt whatsoever that Dad would have double-de-clutched as he changed into bottom gear for that right hand hairpin bend.
Whilst the quality of this cine seems to have degraded more than the others, I still think it’s worth showing. Look who’s carrying Dad’s Agifold camera all the time and just how many swimming costumes did Mum have??!! It’s a family joke that on every cine film she seems to be modelling a different one.
The helicopter was the Ordnance Survey guys who were staying at the same B & B as us. They recognised our car and came to say hello. Later that day they told us that, shortly after Dad had filmed them, they were forced down by a “large bird of prey”. Presumably it was defending its territory from a larger rival!
Toby, our West Highland terrier, spent most of his life swimming or digging for England (in Scotland of course)! He was our faithful best friend and we only lost him when I was at university.
So, quality of picture aside, I hope you enjoy this snapshot of our many hours spent in the Western Highlands of Scotland in the 1960’s.
